This listing is for a limited edition, fine art print of my original painting of a Chestnut-backed Chickadee called, “I Know Kung Fu.”
This chickadee might be a wee little fellow, but watch out, because he’s mighty! The print is mounted on wood and ready to hang. Bird in a Box subscribers – this is the bird for April 2015.
About the bird:
From our friends at Audubon:
The most colorful of the chickadees, the Chestnut-backed is common in the Northwest. Inland, it may overlap in range with up to three other close relatives; but in the very humid coastal belt, in wet forests of hemlock and tamarack, this is the only chickadee present. In those surroundings its rich chestnut colors may be hard to see, but it can still be recognized by its husky, fast chick-a-dee calls.
Habitat: Open groves, river valleys, marshes, grasslands. Found in a wide variety of open habitats in North America, including open oak grassland, desert grassland, farm country, marshes. Main requirements seem to be trees for perching and nesting, and open ground with high populations of rodents. They can be found along the coast of California, southern Texas, and southern Florida, as well as throughout Mexico.
